Our workshop

A small family business with a big belief: every child deserves to explore STEM

We're a New Zealand family who loves making things, and we're passionate about helping children discover science, technology, engineering and maths in a playful, hands-on way.

How it started

Our flagship product, Play Planks, began with a simple idea: give children big, sturdy pieces they could slot together into anything they imagined, then take apart and build again. It worked better than we hoped. Children built buses, boats, castles and playhouses, and in the process they negotiated, planned, problem-solved and laughed together.

Since then we've added Play Planks Mini for younger builders, the Dots & Digits Number Board for early numeracy, and Building Beams, a bolt-together engineering kit with wheels and pulleys for older students.

Why we make them ourselves

We care about quality. Making each set by hand means we can choose good timber, check every piece and stand behind how it performs in a busy classroom. It also means we stay close to the teachers and families who use our toys, and their feedback shapes what we make next.

What we stand for

Made thoughtfully, from timber to box

Crafted by hand

Cut, notched, drilled and finished in our New Zealand workshop, one set at a time.

Kind to the planet

Timber over plastic, reusable by design, and Dots & Digits boxes upcycled from used cardboard.

Built to be handled

Robust enough for years of enthusiastic play, rebuilding and sharing between classes.

Open-ended on purpose

No single right answer. Children's imagination sets the limit, so the learning keeps growing.
